Dia De Los Muertos is a traditional time of remembrance to honor and celebrate those who have died. To invite their spirits into our homes for reunions. The reality for 11 million people in America is that they have a greater chance of celebrating holidays with deceased ancestors than with living relatives across our borders.

The immigration policies of this nation needlessly separates and harms families. It is not based upon our core values of Christian family first principles.

In the spirit of Dia De Los Muertos concert attendees are invited to bring photos of their relatives to be placed on our ofrenda. Relatives passed. Relatives living you cannot be with.

We look forward to being with you this Saturday in our celebration of music and life.

Diane Guerrero: Author Talk & Book Signing

Event: Author Talk & Book Signing
Diane Guerrero
Interviewed by Julissa Arce
Date: Sunday, June 22, 2018 at 4:00pm
Location: Children’s Book World at 10580 1/2 Pico Blvd, Los Angeles 90064

Diane Guerrero reminds us that when talking about immigration we are not just talking about the 11 million undocumented people living in America, we are talking about their families too. We are talking about an issues that personally touches the lives of close to 50 million US citizens. Lives forever scared by abductions, detainment, banishment. Personal narrative story telling is a tool of empowerment and hope and we at DREAM Team LA applaud Diane’s activism to affect change in our immigration system.

Please join Children’s Book World in welcoming Diane Guerrero as she discusses her first book for kids with author and immigrants’ rights advocate Julissa Arce. Diane Guerrero presents her personal story of the real plight of undocumented immigrants in her new book for middle grade readers, My Family Divided: One Girl’s Journey of Home, Loss, and Hope. Before landing a spot on the megahit Netflix show Orange is the New Black; before wowing audiences as Lina on Jane the Virgin; and before her incredible activism and work on immigration reform, Diane Guerrero was a young girl living in Boston. One day, while Guerrero was at school, her undocumented immigrant parents were taken from their home, detained, and deported. Guerrero’s life, which had been full of the support of a loving family, was turned upside down. Reflective of the experiences of millions of undocumented immigrant families in the United States, Guerrero’s story is at once heartbreaking and hopeful.
